[edit] Background
Every registered user has a user page (see the user list) - you don't have to contribute to the wiki in order to be eligible for a user page. They are googled so they are visible to the world and can be used a profile for you, your business, or a combination. The page is named with the user name you choose when you sign up. You may want to use your real name or an abbreviation. We would prefer that real names are used wherever possible.
Remember thought that this is a wiki so your page can be edited by others. Pages which are being edited maliciously can be locked to prevent further changes.
If you include an email address in your preferences then you can be emailed from here by other users, contributors and members.
We've set up some templates to make setting up your userpage a bit easier. As will all pages on a Wiki even these templates are editable, but we would ask if you want to adapt our templates you copy them and edit the copy. This will not affect existing users of the template. Please make your new template available to all.
[edit] Setting up your page
Your user page is created when you register for the site, so the first thing to do is register. If you haven't done that then please create an account or log in here Once you have logged in then you will see your personalised links in the top right of the browser. Here is an example:
Clicking your name for the first time creates your user page or takes you directly to it.
You can also get directly to your talk page, set preferences, see a list of pages you are watching and a list of pages you have contributed to, and finally log-out via this menu. It's on every page to make navigation easier.
When you edit your page you can include the following code snippets to help you build a professional page. Firstly, an information box. Cut and paste this code into your page:
{{user}}{{userinfo
|image=
|name=
|born=
|gender=
|town=
|country=
|title=
|office=
|mobile=
|email=
|skype=
}}
Add the relevant data to each section, such as your full name. To add a picture you need to provide the link to the picture in standard wiki format. If you upload a picture (link on the left - upload file) then you would format the link thus:
| image=[[File:YOURFILE.jpg]] | name=Your name | etc.
After those codes complete the page as you would any other page on the Wiki - Here is an example of a user page.
[edit] Usage
Talk and discussion
Each user page includes a talk/discussion page (As do all pages on this wiki where we encourage people other than the owner of the page to post information or questions for the user. Editing of another users page should be done with care and, in general, with their permission in advance.
Wiki's are not good conversational tools as they are designed to develop a common single document. If you enter your email in preferences (rather than just in the display template for your user page discussed on this page) then other members can get in touch with you directly when looking at your user page from the links in menu on the left.
Your preferences
There are a number of things that you can set in your preferences which are accessed through the "my preferences" link above. We recommend enabling email from other users on the user profile tab and checking the boxes to automatically add pages that you edit or amend to your watch list on the watchlist tab.
[edit] Guidelines
User pages are editable by anyone so changes you make about yourself may be edited by others. If you watch the page (depending on your preferences this may be automatic) then you will be emailed when someone changes the page (other than you).
The general terms of use apply, except in relation to promotion of specific businesses. In general pages it's likely that such promotion would be edited away by the community anyway. Individual user pages can be used to promote the page owners business(es) - indeed such use is encouraged.
For clarity: Pages should not include anything which is defamatory of others whether a part of this wiki or not. Such material may be edited or deleted without warning. Pages may link to external sites or other pages in this or other wiki's
